Why Post-Surgical Medical Chiropractic Adjustments:
When you go through surgery, your body may be placed in many different awkward positions in order for the surgeon to adequately access the body area targeted for surgery, often spinal surgery meant to relieve neck, upper back, or lumbar back pain. There are several reasons to seek chiropractic care post-surgery:
1) To facilitate the healing process and to help restore mobility. After back surgery, an experienced knowledgeable chiropractor may help you recover faster and heal faster.
2) In some cases the back surgery may not relieve the neck, back, or lumbar back pain at all or shift the pain to a different area. Many patients have more then one cervical spine surgery when there is no relief of the underlying pain and continue to suffer from the same pain after multiple surgeries.
Neck and Back Pain May Be The Result Of Your Atlas Being Out Of Alignment
Atlas Misalignment May Cause Your Neck and Back Pain
Neck and back surgery should always be a last resort but that should be discussed in depth with your physician. In more severe cases; such as: cracked vertebrae, severe curvature of the spine (sideways or bent over), or degenerative disc that is pressing on the nerves, surgery may be indicated as your best option. However, there are many conditions that may be effectively treated by a chiropractor without surgery; back pain, pressure on the sciatic nerve, and herniated discs.
If you have postsurgical pain or no relief of pain for which the surgery was intended, you should contact an Atlas Orthogonist to have a different evaluation and perspective of what might be causing the underlying pain.
Post-surgical adjustments to facilitate healing may also be discussed with your attending physician. There are some back surgeries that require extensive healing prior to any physical exercise and any spinal manipulations. Typically, a spinal fusion patient will be precluded from any spinal manipulations. Patients will receive post-surgery discharge instructions from your physician outlining any relevant physical limitations of your surgery and they should be adhered to.
