What Is Atlas Orthogonal Treatment?
An Atlas Orthogonist is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic that has extensive training and post-graduate work specializing in correcting spinal realignment by means of an atlas orthogonal percussion instrument. The atlas is a critical factor, if not in alignment, that may result in many all too often overlooked and untreated medical conditions. The atlas rests on the very top of the spine just below the skull. Nerves, blood vessels, and the brain stem extends down into the atlas. The atlas, if out of alignment, could impair nerves, blood vessels, the brain stem or a combination of them; thereby causing many medical conditions (see list below). Computerized X-rays indicate if the atlas is in or out of alignment with the resulting adjustment that is required to put the atlas back into place. The orthogonal percussion instrument method is gentle, completely painless, and effective in adjusting your atlas; no heavy upper cervical neck manipulation.
Migraine Pain Relief
Migraine Headaches can be one of the most debilitating medical consequences of a misaligned atlas with excruciating relentless pain, nausea, vomiting, blurring eyes, dizziness, and many other symptoms that vary from patient to patient. You have tried every doctor and medical treatment without any real success, call Boutwell Chiropractic Group, P.C to make an appointment and let us see if we might be able to help you as we have with so many other migraine sufferers!
Headaches
There is a difference between headaches and migraine headaches. Most everyone has had a headache at one time or another so most people have experienced a headache. Headaches may be caused by many different conditions; sinus, tension, cluster, acute, hormone, chronic, stress, etc.. The main difference is the level of pain and duration. Some of these conditions may also lead to migraines. If your headaches has risen to the level of disrupting your life, causing you to lose sleep, or loss of contentment; call us for an appointment to see if we can help!
Vertigo
Vertigo is a type of dizziness in which the patient may feel a spinning motion with symptoms such as; nausea, vomiting, can’t see correctly, and may not be able to keep your balance (balance disorder). Vertigo can be debilitating during these episodes. Vertigo can be caused by the atlas being misaligned. If your Vertigo is caused by the atlas out of alignment, our atlas orthogonal procedure may be the solution with significant improvement or even complete relief. We can tell you if we may be able to help you after your first visit with our computerized X-ray system. >
Fibromyalgia Treatment
Fibromyalgia often causes musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, sleeping problems, memory issues, and mood change. Symptoms may begin after a trauma like whiplash, or surgery, an infection, or extreme stress, and sometimes simply may develop slowly over time. Research has indicated that the underlying cause Fibromyalgia may be the result of your brain processing pain signals incorrectly. Since your nerves, blood vessels, and brain stem run through the atlas, if it is out of alignment, the atlas could be the underlying cause of your symptoms.
Whiplash
Whiplash is an injury to the neck (hyperextension). Very common result of being hit from behind in a car or trucking accident. However, any type of trauma to the head, back, or neck may result in injury to the atlas such as a sports injury, falling off a ladder, or any other type of head, back, or neck trauma. If any of these conditions caused the atlas to be out of alignment, we may be able to help you as we have many others!
Cranial Nerve Injuries
Cranial Nerve Injuries include many of the medical conditions listed here such as; migraines and headaches: but there are many other possible side effects that may be the result of the misalignment of the atlas: blurred vision, ears ringing (tinnitus), jaw pain or dysfunction, neck pain (cracking, grinding, stiffness), lower back, nerve root irritation, one leg shorter then the other, and repeated injuries to one side of the body!
Post-Surgical Adjustments
An often overlooked problem may occur during or after surgery as the patient may be twisted and turned to perform the required procedure including back or spinal surgery. Many times the neck, spine, or atlas may inadvertently be impacted during the surgery or even with intubation by anesthesiologist as your head/neck is adjusted for inserting the tube. Post-surgery, the patient may then assume that this is part of the normal healing process as a result of the surgical procedure. It may even be concealed as a result of post-surgery pain medication. This may not be the case. If you have any unexplained or on-going pain or discomfort your atlas may be out of alignment. And, keep in mind that if the atlas is misaligned as a result, there are many potential side effects, not just an aching neck or back!
Corrective Exercises – Rehab
We are privileged to provide one on one appointments with our exercise physiologist, Chip Fischofer. He assists our Doctors with each patient by giving them individualized instruction to correct and strengthen the areas in which time and/or injury has damaged. He is certified in many different soft tissue techniques. These techniques are used to treat and correct injuries deep in the muscle tissue. We have found it to be very effective in allowing patients to hold their adjustments longer and reducing their treatment time. Chip is also highly effective in rehabilitating sports injuries and at home instruction to increase stability and strength.
