Dr. John Boutwell

Dr. John Boutwell came to Augusta, Georgia and opened his practice in 1955 on 1916 Walton Way. Within a short time, he built a largely successful practice and began a tradition of giving quality health care to his patients. He excelled within his profession, at one time serving as President of the state’s chiropractic association. Not only did he give quality, full-spine chiropractic care, he also began a tradition of highly specialized upper cervical care in the Augusta area. Studying under Dr. John Grostic and later under Dr. Roy Sweat, he became a strong advocate of upper cervical chiropractic, throughout the country. Many of his patients still remember his patient lectures educating the community about health and chiropractic care.

In 1982 Dr. John’s twin sons, Dr. Randall and Dr. Darrell Boutwell joined him in his practice. Both sons studied under Dr. Roy Sweat, the founder of the Atlas Orthogonal (AO) upper cervical procedure, and use this procedure as an integral part of their practice. Dr. Darrell has served as a board member for 20 years on the Roy W. Sweat Foundation, a research foundation for upper cervical health care. The brothers eventually moved their practice to Columbia County in 1988 and to their present location in 1998, where Dr. John, as his patients called him, practiced in semi-retirement up until 2007. (53 years of serving Augusta). The sons consider him their greatest mentor and hope to continue what he started…loving and serving his community with quality health care, in a way that honors their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (Way to go, Dad!)
